Choosing Thermistors

A thermistor functions like a resistor that changes its resistance relative to ambient temperature. Analog temperature sensors are active semiconductors that have voltage outputs that will match temperature.

A thermistor is useful because of its low price point. Compared to analog sensors, thermistors are much more affordable. The size of thermistors also allows it to be used in smaller areas. This even includes a two-terminal package. The devices work best when working in a narrow temperature range that is unpredictable.

An analog sensor can measure a wide range of temperatures so fewer devices are needed. Thermistors deal with narrow ranges. These sensors are also appropriate when working with devices that have low noise sensitivity.
